Head of the National Grid Dispatch Virgiliu Ivan said that the pipeline of electricity generation projects already approved (but not completed) and waiting for approval by electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica amount to 37,000 MW.
According to him, most of the projects are renewable energy projects. If all these projects are completed, which is an unlikely scenario, Romania’s installed electricity generation capacity would double. However, not all projects will be completed, but Transelectrica is preparing to integrate as much as possible projects into the national electricity network.
Ivan reminded that the National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) recently approved the Electricity Transportation System Development Plan for the next 10 years, which includes investment in the amount of 1.4 billion euros.
A large part of these investments planned is located in southeastern Romania so that the electricity can be taken from the renewable energy plants, which are predominant in the area, and transported to the rest of the country.
