In the second quarter of 2020 electricity production amounted to 1,188 GWh, which is 7.2 % lower compared to the same period last year (1,280 GWh) according to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).
The country’s electricity exports rose in the April- June 2020 period and amounted to 224 GWh, compared to 142 GWh in the same period in 2019, while electricity imports fell slightly to 681 GWh from last year’s 683 GWh. All of Albania’s electricity in the second quarter of the year was generated by hydropower plants, with about 48.1 % of that amount produced by state controlled HPPs. Electricity network losses decreased by 13.4 % in April-June 2020 period to 311 GWh, with a drop in distribution losses (273 compared to 316 GWh in Q2 2019), as well as in transmission losses to 38 GWh from last year’s 43 GWh.
