According to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), electricity production in the second quarter of 2022 amounted to 1,657 GWh, which is by 38 % lower compared to the same period last year (2,660 GWh).
The country’s electricity exports fell in the April- June 2022 period and amounted to 415 GWh, compared to 924 GWh in the same period in 2021, while electricity imports rose to 664 GWh from last year’s 228 GWh. Almost all of Albania’s electricity in the second quarter of the year was generated by hydropower plants, with about 38.3 % of that amount produced by state controlled HPPs.
Electricity network losses decreased by 29 % in April-June 2022 period to 362.5 GWh, with a decrease in distribution losses (306.8 compared to 339.7 GWh in Q2 2021), as well as in transmission losses to 55.7 GWh from last year’s 60.7 GWh.
