The Albanian Government extended the state of energy supply emergency by an additional six months. The state of emergency in the energy sector was introduced in 2021 due to the energy crisis.
It enables the government to allocate funding for electricity imports and suspend any kind of investment by state-owned energy suppliers, except from mandatory expenditures, according to documents published earlier by the energy regulator ERE.
When the state of emergency is in force, energy security is ensured by an inter-institutional group led by Prime Minister Edi Rama. PM Rama first introduced the state of energy supply emergency state in November 2021 with the end date set for 15 April 2022.
