The Albanian Government presented the Gas Master Plan for Albania, which is expected to be implemented until 2040. The Master Plan takes into account all the investments in the development of the Albanian gas distribution network necessary for the gasification of the country between 2020 and 2040.
The presented Gas Master Plan considers that Trans-Adriatic pipeline (TAP), which construction started in May in Greece, will be the main source of gas supply, but it also envisages other possible sources. According to the plan, the first region in Albania that will benefit from the gasification would be Fier county and the production at gasfired thermal power plant Vlore could be started as well.
Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri said that the master plan for the gasification of the country has to be implemented, since natural gas is an alternative source of energy. He stressed that gas deposits in Albania have to be exploited due to an increasing demand for oil and gas in the country.
Currently, Albania has poor natural gas production which stands at about 5 million cubic meters of gas per year, and entire domestic production is used to supply technological processes of the refineries and oil industry. On the other hand, natural gas for consumption in households is mostly imported, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
