Estimated transmission network losses in 2017 could reach a level of 160 million KWh, estimates Albanian Transmission System Operator OST.
In order to cover the losses, OST is planning necessary procurement of electricity in the value of eight million euros, at an average price of around 50 EUR per MWh.
This year OST will have more expenses because of the loans that are coming due. In previous period OST has taken long-term loans to finance large-scale projects related to expansion and improvement of the transmission network.
Total liabilities during 2017 are estimated at EUR 25 million. This is probably the reason why OST asked to increase tariffs by about one Albanian Lek, but Energy Regulatory Authority has not taken that into consideration.
