Norwegian Statkraft has resumed operation of its floating solar power plant located on the Banja reservoir in southern Albania.
Ocean Sun, the company that built the plant, said that the operation was resumed in early April following a prolonged pause after the incident last summer .
Last June, about a week after the commissioning of the first phase, Ocean Sun said that is working on retrieving the floating ring with membrane and two connected barges, which were damaged and partly submerged. However, no details of the incident were disclosed. Only 500 kW of the planned 2 MW were commissioned.
In December 2018, Statkraft Renewables Albania filed a request to the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for a construction permit for a floating solar park, which was later obtained. After the installation of solar panels on the Banja reservoir, the company will consider similar plant at the Moglice reservoir.
