Bosnian coalmine and thermal power plant (RiTE) Ugljevik said that 60 % of the works on the installation of flue gas desulfurization facility has been completed and it is expected that the project will be finished in mid-2019.
The statement from the company said that the installation of a flue gas desulfurization system, which will be the first of its type in the Balkans area, costs 100 million euros, 80 million euros of which has been procured from Japan International Cooperation Agency as a loan, adding that the project is of great importance for the country’s ecology, as well as for the general development and continuation of electricity production in this coal-fired power plant. The construction of the facility started last May.
The agreement on the installation of flue gas desulfurization system between RiTE Ugljevik and Japanises Mitsubishi was signed in July 2016. Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of the Republic of Srpska (RS), Petar Djokic said on the occasion that the installation of this system will extend the operational life of the plant. He pointed out that with the realization of this agreement, power utility ERS will fulfill their part of the international obligations in respect of the application of international environmental standards, especially those regarding the reduction of emissions. In late 2017, Japanese Yokogawa Electric Corporation announced that it will deliver a control system for a flu gas desulfurization system for TPP Ugljevik. The project will be managed by Yokogawa’s Austrian subsidiary and the Serbian Office of Yokogawa Europe.
