Production of electricity from renewable energy sources in Bulgaria could be limited due to the lack of system capacity, according to CEO of electricity transmission system operator ESO, Angelin Tsachev.
He added that more than 1,800 MW of operating renewable energy facilities have been connected to the distribution and transmission networks in the last 18 months. There are over 3,000 MW of solar power plants operating in Bulgaria.
In addition to the construction of network capacity, the process of building maneuverable capacities should also be considered. Therefore, energy storage capacities need to be developed urgently, but not just battery projects.
Tsacev recommended developing energy storage systems of industrial importance, such as pump-storage hydropower plants.
