According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 19 December 2021 has increased by 15.34 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 45.77 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 3.99 % reaching a total of 37.4 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 8.37 TWh so far in 2021, 148 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal,nuclear) produced a total of 37.72 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 14.65 % more than in 2020.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 2.27 % to 1,248.8 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 0.65 % to 1,880.4 GWh.
