Electricity production in Bulgaria declined by 16.5% on the year to 3,322 GWh between January 1 and January 28, according to the Electricity System Operator’s data.
In the same period, electricity consumption increased by 6.8%, to 3,598 GWh.
Bulgaria swung to a power trade deficit of 275.4 GWh in the review period from a surplus of 611 GWh a year earlier.
The volume of renewable energy in the transmission network leapt by 35.5% in annual terms to 176.3 GWh, while the volume of renewable energy in the distribution system added 28.5% to 173.9 GWh.
The output of hydropower plants declined by 12.4%, to 187.9 GWh.
