In the period between 1 January and 4 April 2021 production of electricity in Bulgaria has increased by 4.66 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 12.68 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption dropped in the same period, by 0.12 % reaching a total of 11.39 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 1,283 GWh so far in 2021, 81.88 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 10.13 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 3.39 % less than in 2020. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 11.86 % to 242.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 7.37 % to 496.5 GWh.
