According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 8 May 2022 has increased by 17.4 % compared to 2021 and reached 19.87 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 1.79 % reaching a total of 15.09 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 4.78 TWh GWh so far in 2022, 127.6 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 16.91 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 26.62 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 23.45 % to 582.5 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 18.64 % to 820.2 GWh.
