The first joint gas purchase tender under the AggregateEU mechanism attracted bids from 25 gas suppliers totalling over 13.4 billion cubic meters of gas. That is more than the demand of 11.6 billion cubic meters, European Commission announced.
EC said that the international suppliers have already been matched with the European customers on AggregateEU, amounting to an overall volume of 10.9 billion cubic meters. This covers 8.7 billion cubic meters of gas via pipeline and 2.2 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
EU companies will negotiate the terms of the supply contracts directly with the supplying companies.
Additional tenders will follow every two months until the end of the year. The next tendering round is expected to be launched in the second half of June.
