Renewables arm of Greek Public Power Corporation (PPC) has requested from the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) to include planned geothermal units on non-connected island of Lesvos, Milos, Kimolos and Nisyros in its RES development plan.

PPC Renewables is planning to build a geothermal unit with installed capacity of 8 MW on Lesvos island, which will reduce previously planned biomass capacities that proved hard to develop. Geothermal units with capacity of 5 MW each are planned for the other three islands.

According to the National Energy and Climate Plan, geothermal units offering a total capacity of approximately 100 MW are planned to be built and put into operation by 2030. The aforementioned islands, offering geothermal potential, are expected to partially cover this geothermal capacity.
