The Hungarian Energy and Public Utilities Regulatory Office (MEKH) has approved the 1.04 billion euros worth plan for the upgrade of the national electricity transmission network presented by Hungarian transmission system operator MAVIR.
The statement from MAVIR said that the upgrades will keep the network in line with increased consumption and a boom in solar energy generation. Already, more than 4,000 MW of solar capacity is connected to the network, and another 5,000 MW could be added by 2027, thus helping Hungary reach its 2030 RES targets already in 2025.
The plan also includes the construction of electricity interconnections with neighboring Romania and Serbia.
