The Romanian Competition Council has approved by Energy Complex Oltenia and aluminium producer ALRO to establish a company that will build a natural gas-fired power plant. Analysis showed that the plan poses no significant threats to the national market and that there are no serious doubts regarding its compatibility with a normal competition environment.
In October 2022, ALRO said that it was declared as the selected investor in the tender for the construction of a gas-fired power plant at Isalnita, launched by EC Oltenia.
EC Oltenia is planning to build an 850 MW gas-fired power plant. It will replace two 315 MW coal-fired units of TPP Isalnita.
For about two years, EC Oltenia has been looking for partners for ten major investment projects in new electricity generation capacity, part of the restructuring and modernization plan approved in January 2022. The contract for nine of these projects has been awarded, which includes eight solar power plants (four will be built in partnership with OMV Petrom and the other four with Tinmar Energy), while the contract for the construction of a gas-fired power plant at Turceni was signed with TinmarEnergy.
