Romania, Electricity consumption in January 2022 amounted to 4.82 TWh

According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in January 2022 amounted to 4.82 TWh, which is 6.2 % more compared to the same month in 2021.

The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 3.54 TWh, which is 10.1 % more compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, household electricity consumption amounted to 1.22 TWh, which is a 3.7 % decrease. Public lighting consumption rose by 2.6 % amounting to some 54.4 GWh.

Total electricity production reached 5.47 TWh in January, which is 5.9 % more compared to the same month in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 1.6 % and reached 2.07 TWh.

Production in hydropower plants decreased by 1.1 % to 1.28 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 13.2 % to 1.04 TWh. Production of wind power rose by 25.8 % compared to the same period of 2020, reaching 1.02 TWh. Solar power production reached 77.7 GWh, 39 % more compared to the first month of 2021.

Electricity exports in January 2022 amounted to 549.7 GWh, which is by 1 % less compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports decreased by 10.8 % and amounted to 566.1 GWh.

Total production of primary energy resources in the first month of 2022 amounted to 1,558 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 0.3 % more than in 2021. Coal production reached 229.4 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 3.4 %), oil production reached 253.5 million tons of oil equivalent (- 3.9 %), while production of natural gas reached 615.3 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.3 %).
