Electricity produced in hydropower plants covered more than 50 % of Romania’s electricity consumption in the morning hours of Sunday, 20 June, according to data published by the electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica.
The main reason for increase of hydro production is increased precipitation during last week. Thus, on Sunday at 09:30, national electricity consumption amounted to 5,488 MW, while production stood at 6,103 MW, while the difference of 635 MW was exported.
At the same time, hydropower plants produced with a capacity of 2,848 MW, nuclear power plant Cernavoda – 1,407 MW, coal-fired thermal power plants – 835 MW, while gas-fired power plants contributed with 418 MW.
