The signing of the contract for the completion of the Oradea Sud – Nadab section of the Oradea – Bekescsaba 400 kV overhead transmission line, an investment of over 800,000 euros was announced by Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica.
The contract was signed with local Electromontaj and the line should be completed within 12 months.
The Oradea-Bekescsaba 400 kV overhead transmission line project, a total investment of over 17 million euros, has been blocked since 2008 due to difficulties encountered in the expropriation process on the Oradea Sud – Nadab section. Thus, the 400 kV Oradea-Bekescsaba transmission line was put into use only partially. The Oradea Sud – Nadab section has a total length of 72 kilometers and is partially completed.
The statement from Transelectrica said that the commissioning of the Oradea Sud – Nadab section and thus the completion of the 400 kV transmission line Oradea – Bekescsaba contributes to the completion of the 400 kV ring in the west part of the country, Romania’s priority objective, with a significant impact on increasing operational safety and minimizing supply risks.
Also, in terms of safety in operation, it should be noted that the Oradea-Bekescsaba 400 kV transmission line has a higher reliability than the existing lines, being designed based on new standards. At the same time, the completion of this line will lead to the elimination of congestion costs in the north-west, with an impact on both the price of the final consumer of electricity and the revenue of Transelectrica.
At the same time, by completing the Oradea Sud – Nadab section, the interconnection transfer capacity will increase on the export direction by 100 MW, and on the import direction by 300 MW, which contributes to Romania’s compliance with its obligations from the implementation of EU Regulations. In addition, the investment will play a significant role in achieving the European Union’s goal of achieving the European Single Electricity Market, which aims to reduce the price of electricity to the final consumer by increasing competition and competitiveness.
