SEE region: BiH exported nearly a million tons of coal to Serbia in 2022

In the first six months of 2022, Serbia bought 109,200 tons of brown coal from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the price of 7.9 million euros. In the same period the year before, Serbia bought 46,482 tons for 3 million euros.

In the second half of 2022, Serbia’s purchases amounted to around 850,000 tons, almost eight times more compared to the first half.

This purchase trend continued in the first quarter of 2023, when 309,800 tons were exported for 27 million euros.

According to the data published by the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber, brown coal is mostly exported to Serbia by the mines from Banovici, Foca, Ugljevik, Tuzla, Breza, Zvornik, Doboj, Zivinice, Visoko and the Brcko District.

Last year, BiH exported six times more coal than the year before, and the trend of mass sale of coal started in the midst of the global energy crisis continued in the first three months of 2023.

According to the data of the BiH Taxation Authority, in 2022, the exports of brown coal amounted to as much as 958,200 tons, at the price of almost 78 million euros, while, in the year before, it amounted to 160,840 tons for around 10 million euros.
