Serbia: HPP Djerdap increases production output with bigger water inflow
, News Serbia EnergyIn the second half of April, HPP Djerdap 1 increased the production of electricity, due the stronger inflow of the Danube and abundant precipitation. From the beginning of the year, the HPP Djerdap 1 produced about 1.73 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, or 98 percent of the plan for the first four months of this year.
The average daily production of electricity in the hydropower plant now is about 19 million kilowatt hours, the director of the Djerdap 1, Ljubisa Jokic said.
From the beginning of the year, the HPP Djerdap 1 produced about 1.73 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, or 98 percent of the plan for the first four months of this year; the production was lower in the first half of April because of the drought, but now, due to abundant precipitation the production is increased, so that the April’s plan is fulfilled with 75 percent, he said.
If this inflow of water continues as it is, a good power production is expected in the first 20 days of May, Jokic announced.
The inflow of water in the Danube is now about 7,200 cubic meters per second, although it is now far higher than the average, in the next three to four days it is expected to reach 7,500 cubic meters per second, Jokic says. He added that in this HPP the average water inflow was about 5,500 cubic meters of water per second.
The Djerdap’s 1 modernization is performing in cooperation with the Russian company “Silovije machine” from St. Petersburg, and when the whole HPP would have been revitalized, our biggest hydropower plant, which last year celebrated four decades of successful operation, will provide a new lifetime of at least 30 years, with 10 percent increased power, or with additional 70 megawatts of power.
We brought down the elevation in the Djerdap 1, so that we can receive a whole upcoming wave, but that increase is not something important, but it will help in filling the lake, which previously was quite emptied, he said.
Jokic said that production in the Serbian part Djerap 1 was aligning with the Romanian part.
Speaking about the revitalization of the Djerdap 1, Jokic said that the renewal of aggregate 5 was going according to plan and around 15th of May should been tested lowering an impeller, and the whole work regarding that aggregate should been completed by the end of the year.
By completing the revitalization of a Unit (Aggregate) 5, the revitalization of half HPP would be completed, and thus, a third of total six units in the Djerdap 1 would be renewed.
