Production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 3 September has decreased by 22% compared to same period in 2022, to 27.49 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
At the same time, electricity consumption decreased by 5%, to 24.73 TWh.
Surplus electricity amounted to 2.76 TWh in 2023, 70% less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced 21.66 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 27% less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 53% to 1,667.5 GWh, while RES share in the distribution network increased by 9% to 1,717.3 GWh.
