State-owned power utility ESM did not submit an offer at the tender launched by the universal supplier EVN Home, which supplies electricity to almost all residential consumers in North Macedonia. According to ESM, the reason for not submitting an offer is of a technical nature.
The statement from ESM said that, according to the Government’s decision, in 2022 ESM should apply to electricity supply tenders organized by EVN Home for a 6-month period, while this tender was for a 12-month period. Therefore, ESM did not submit an offer and will wait for the electricity supply tender for January-June 2022 period to submit its offer.
It is expected that EVN Home will announce a tender for January-June 2022 period on 14 December. According to regulation, ESM is obliged to provide at least 60 % of electricity for households and small businesses who are not supplied on the free market. However, ESM believes that it will be able to offer 100 % supply, all from its own production capacities, and that there will be no more need for expensive imports.
