Romania, Electricity consumption in Romania in the first ten months of 2021 amounted to 46.13 TWh

According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first ten months of 2021 amounted to 46.13 TWh, which is 5.3 % more compared to the same period in 2020.

The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 34.27 TWh, which is 4.6 % more compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, household electricity consumption amounted to 11.43 TWh, which is a 7.4 % increase. Public lighting consumption rose by 2.6 % amounting to some 428.2 GWh.

Total electricity production reached 49.11 TWh in the first ten months of the year, which is 7.2 % more compared to the same period in 2020. Production in thermal power plants increased by 11.4 % and reached 18 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 17.5 % to 15.14 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 1.7 % to 9.24 TWh. Production of wind power dropped by 10.9 % compared to the same period of 2020, reaching 5.15 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.58 TWh, 1 % less compared to the ten nine months of 2020.

Electricity exports in January-October 2021 amounted to 5 TWh, which is by 22.2 % more compared to the same period in 2020. At the same time electricity imports increased by 1.9 % and amounted to 6.42 TWh.

Total production of primary energy resources in the first ten months of 2021 amounted to 15,441 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 2.9 % more than in 2020. Coal production reached 2,689 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 18.6 %), oil production reached 2,599 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.2 %), while production of natural gas reached 6,006 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 0.4 %).
